Customer relationship 101: keep your customers informed about their processes

I’m currently waiting on car parts to arrive with zero visibility on the timeline. Six days ago, I sent a quick email to the official body shop asking for a simple status update. The response? None…

It was a sharp reminder that customer satisfaction is rarely just about getting the lowest price. It’s about receiving great service. And “service” goes far beyond the core product or deliverable. It’s how you guide someone through the sale; It’s the post-sale support when things are moving slowly; It’s the proactive updates that prevent a customer from feeling left in a vacuum.

You don’t always need to have the final solution immediately. Sometimes a simple, “We’re still working on this, here is where things stand,” is all it takes to preserve trust. Proactive communication costs almost nothing, but radio silence will eventually cost you the customer.

And you can replace customer with any other stakeholder, and do the same in any other context. This is not about car pieces, it’s about basic communication skills and project management. Basic!

Apply this now: if you have some pending tasks involving other people, open your email client and write a one paragraph with a quick status update on their process. Do this on a weekly basis. Hell, use AI to do half the work and generate a draft. Review and send! Watch the reactions…
